What We Do
We can provide as much or as little assistance as required by each client. The website development process frequently works best if the client provides the basic content and purpose of the site. Frequently we start with existing print advertising and brochures.
We have our own prefences for the behind-the-scenes structure, code, and technical underpinnings of most of our websites, as explained here.
Typically, website development work can be broken down into these areas:Design
This refers to creating the content, structure, and visual themes of the website. The design might start from scratch, or it might borrow from existing advertising, documents, brochures, etc.Website content should come from the needs of the customer / user / viewer. Do they want to see pictures of your products? Text descriptions? Catalogs? Current, frequently updated information?
Creating the content of the website should lead to the required structure. Is it all on one page? One main page with a single level of detailed pages (like this site)? Several levels of details (like woodland-motel.com)? How do users find their way around your website (menus, links, etc)?
We can help with some or all of the design, but much of the core content of the website should come from you.
Development
This is taking the creations of the Design stage above and producing a usable website out of them. This task can vary with the complexity of the design, and the features of the website.Testing
After the initial website is complete it should be evaluated by as many people as possible. Does it provide the right information? Is it organized well? Does it provide the right image for the business? Does it make sense?Implementation and Hosting
This refers to actually placing the website on the Internet. It's a very straightforward and quick process for most websites.Maintenance
After the website is up and running, most ongoing tasks are generally lumped under the term 'Maintenance'. These tasks may include:- Fixing Problems
- Updating Content
- Tracking Use of the Website
